Chocolate Cake Recipe

- 2 cups pastry flour
- ½ cup cocoa
- ¾ cup shortening
- 1½ cup sugar
- ½ t. salt
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 t. soda
- 1 t. vanilla
- ½ cup boiling water
- Blend shortening and sugar, add eggs one at a time and beat thoroughly after each addition.
- Add flour sifted with soda and salt alternately with buttermilk.
- Add boiling water mixed to a smooth paste with cocoa.
- Beat well.
- This batter is thin.
- Pour mixture in layer pans and bake 35 min in a 350° oven.
- Turn out on cake rake.
- When cool, frost with chocolate nut frosting.
