Devils Food Cake

Devil's Food Cake

Ingredients

  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1¼ cups brown sugar firmly packed
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • 3 squares Rockwood's Premium Baking Chocolate, melted
  • 1½ cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 Teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 Teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ Teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ cup Rockwood's Chocolate BITS

Instructions

  1. Mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt.
  2. Pour hot water over chocolate in top of double boiler and stir over low heat until smooth and thick.
  3. Let cool.
  4. Cream shortening well then add sugar gradually while continuing to cream until light and fluffy.
  5. Add eggs and beat well.
  6. Add cooled melted chocolate. mix well.
  7. Add sifted dry ingredients to chocolate mixture alternately with combined milk and vanilla.
  8. Bake in greased and floured 8x8x2 pan in moderate oven.
  9. Cover with Peppermint Frosting. (See Frostings.)
  10. Decorate with Rockwood's Chocoalte BITS.

Notes

Bake at 350°F.

Time: 50-60 Minutes.

Amount: 1 Cake 8x8x2
