Baking Powder Biscuits 2
Yield: 18 - 24 biscuits

Baking Powder Biscuits (VRP 150a)

Cook Time: 12 minutes
Total Time: 12 minutes


  • 3 cups flour
  • 6 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 - 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 - 6 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cup milk


  1. Sift dry ingredients
  2. Work in shortening with fingers for pastry blender or two knives until like very coarse cornmeal
  3. Add liquid all at once and stir quickly until the mixture thickens.
  4. Place dough on a lightly floured board and roll over or pat 1/2 to 1-inch thickness (If a fine grain is desired they should be kneaded for about 1/2 minute.)
  5. Cut with a floured cutter and place biscuits on a baking pan.
  6. Allow to stand at room temperature 15 minutes or longer before baking.
  7. Bake at 425 F for 12 - 15 minutes
