Viennese Special

Viennese Special


  • 1 cup shortening, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon lemon rind grated
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves, ground
  • 1 cup almonds, ground


  1. Cream the shortening and sugar
  2. Blend in the egg yolks and beat until fluffy
  3. Add the grated lemon rind, flour, cloves, and almonds
  4. Mix well and chill
  5. Roll dough between 2 sheets of wax paper to 1/8" thick
  6. Cut in 2" rounds
  7. Spread with jam and top with crisscross strips
  8. Place on ungreased cookie sheet
  9. Bake at 400 degrees until done
