Vanilla Refrigerator Cookies


  • 1 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla or 1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring


  1. Sift flour, soda, and salt in a sifter into bowl or paper
  2. Cream shortening and sugar
  3. Add egg and vanilla
  4. Add flour mixture to sugar, shortening, and egg
  5. It will be quite soft
  6. Turn dough into large piece of waxed paper and with firm roll 2" in diameter
  7. Heat oven to 375 degrees
  8. Bake about 10 minutes
  9. Put in refrigerator overnight
  10. Slip knife in hot water and wipe dry ____
