Vintage Recipe Box 400 comes to us from Chalfont, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

It is a large white metal box that measures 12” D x 5.5” W x 4” H and has a metal tag that says “American Home Menu Maker.” According to my research, the box was sold in multiple colors for $1 and included 212 “basic recipes” for an additional $.50. (See the image below, which is an order form to purchase the box.)

At this time, we do not know anything about the history of the box.

We do show that this box came to us with another box, but at this time, we are not sure if the same person owned them or if the eBay seller grouped them.

Tuna and Cheese Casserole

Tuna and Cheese Casserole (VRP 400)


    Cut 4 hard-cooked eggs in half lengthwise. Prepare deviled eggs, using your favorite recipe
    Saute 1/3 cup sliced green onions in 2 tablespoons butter or margarine. Add to 1 can (10 3/4 oz.) condensed Cheddar cheese soup, 1 cup milk, 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon Worchestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon salt. Heat, stirring constantly. Fold in 1 can (7-oz.) tuna, flaked, 1 pkg. (8-oz.) noodles, cooked, drained, 2 tablespoons chopped pimiento.
    Pour into shallow 1½ qt. casserole. Bake moderate oven (350° F.) for 20 minutes
    Arrange deviled egg halves. Return to oven about 10 minutes more. If desired, garnish with 8 thin tomato wedges.
