Susans Brownies

Susan's Brownies

Cook Time: 35 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

Notation in upper right hand corner states "Good Housekeeping, 1948"


  • 3/4 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 2 squares chocolate, melted
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder


  1. Cream 1/2 cup shortening and 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons at a time
  2. Stir in 2 eggs
  3. Stir in melted chocolate
  4. Combined dry ingredients
  5. Add nuts
  6. Add to 8 x 8 x 2
  7. Bake in oven 350 degrees about 30 - 35 minutes
  8. Cook until tester ___ _______ should come out dry.
  9. Cut while still warm into squares or bars with sharp knife
  10. Cool in pan
  11. When cool, cover in pan with waxed paper
  12. Put pan in covered container
