Ingredients

  • 5 egg whites
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup water with enough orange juice to fill the cup

Icing

  • Powdered sugar
  • Orange juice

Instructions

  1. Place egg whites in a large bowl and leave for 30 minutes
  2. Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon-colored.
  3. Gradually beat in sugar.
  4. Sift flour and baking powder
  5. Fold flour mixture into egg yolks
  6. Add orange juice
  7. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into batter
  8. Bake on the lowest oven rack at 325° for 45-55 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched.
  9. Immediately invert pan; cool completely, about 1 hour.
  10. Ice with powdered sugar and orange juice
