  • Batter
  • 1 cup oleo (butter)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons orange rind, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 1 cup dates, chopped
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • Sauce
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons orange rind, grated
  1. Cream the butter and sugar until smooth
  2. Blend in the eggs one at a time
  3. Add the grated orange rind and vanilla
  4. Sift the dry ingredients and add to the cream mixture alternatively with buttermilk
  5. Mix 1/2 cup flour with date and nuts
  6. Fold into the cake batter
  7. Turn into 2 greased loaf pans
  8. Bake at 325 – 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until done
  1. Mix the sugar, orange juice, and grated orange rind together
  2. Blend well
  3. Pour over hot cake as soon as removed from the oven
