Oatmeal and Date Bars
Ingredients
Rolled Oats Crust
- 3/4 cup shortening (part butter)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
Filling
- 2 cups dates, cut up
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
Instructions
Rolled Oats Crust
- Cream the shortening, butter, and brown sugar
- Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt
- Combine the flour mixture with the creamed mixture and add the rolled oats
- Place half the crumb mixture a greased pan
- Flatten with hands
Filling
- In a saucepan, combine the dates and sugar in the water and cook over low heat until thickened
- Cool
- Spread over the crumbled oats in the pan
- Spread the remaining crumbled oats over the dates
- Bake until the crust turns brown

I love this because I Stock pile but it costs so much. Dehydrating is just pcinikg up a few extra fruits or veggies that I would pick up anyways! It saves money and still allows me? to add to my food storage!
