THIS IS THE RECIPE she mentioned in the Custard Cream Filling Recipe.

But, I am not sure why this is called a Martha Washington Cake as this famous cake had fruit as a main ingredient.

Never Fail White Cake

Never Fail White Cake

Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes

Notation in upper right hand corner says "McCall"

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. With rotary beater beat eggs until foamy
  2. Gradually add sugar
  3. Beat
  4. Add vanilla
  5. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add to egg mixture, beating
  7. Scald milk, add butter, and stir until melted
  8. Stir milk into egg mixture
  9. Pour into 7 1/2 x 11 x 2 or 9" larger pan
  10. Bake moderately hot oven at 375 for 25 minutes
  11. NOTE: For Martha Washington cake make custard cream filling
