Meat and Potato Pie

Meat and Potato Pie


  • 1 package piecrust mix (for 2-crust pie)
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ envelope onion soup mix (¼ cup)
  • Dash pepper
  • Dash ground allspice
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons snipped parsley
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 12-ounce package frozen loose-pack hash brown potatoes, thawed (3 cups)
  • Warmed catsup


  1. Prepare piecrust mix according to package directions; roll out for a 2-crust 9-inch pie plate with half of the pastry.
  2. Set aside.
  3. In bowl combine milk, dry onion soup mix, pepper, and allspice.
  4. Add ground beef; mix thoroughly.
  5. Lightly pat meat mixture into pastry-lined pie plate.
  6. Combine parsley, melted butter, and salt; add thawed hash brown potatoes, stirring to coat.
  7. Spoon potatoes over meat mixture.
  8. Adjust top crust; seal and flute edges.
  9. Cut slits for escape of steam.
  10. Bake, uncovered, at 350° till crust is golden, about 1 hour.
  11. Serve with warmed catsup.


Makes 6 servings.
