Italian Cake


  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • dash of salt
  • Pine nuts (also known as Pignola nuts)
  • 1/2 cup raisins, optional
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons anise seed or 3 drops of anise oil


  1. Cream sugar and shortening
  2. Add eggs and beat well
  3. Add vanilla
  4. Sift flour, soda, and salt
  5. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture
  6. Add remaining ingredients
