Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 4 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
  • 1 teaspoon cloves, ground
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, ground

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and shortening
  2. Add the egg and molasses
  3. Beat well
  4. Sift the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger
  5. Add to the creamed mixture
  6. Beat well until smooth
  7. Roll into small balls, about the size of a walnut
  8. Dip into granulated sugar
  9. Place the cookie dough balls a few inches apart on a greased cookie sheet
  10. Bake at 375 degrees for 5 - 7 minutes
