Freezer Strawberry Syrup Recipe Discussion

This recipe for Freezer Strawberry Syrup combines the natural sweetness of strawberries with sugar, thickened with Serve-Gel, a commercial pectin product. The process begins by bringing the Serve-Gel and cold water to a boil, then mixing it with a blend of crushed strawberries and sugar. The mixture is stirred until the sugar dissolves, then poured into jars and stored in the freezer. The syrup is easy to make and retains the bright, fresh flavor of the strawberries, making it perfect for use throughout the year. This preservation method is particularly useful for those who enjoy the taste of homemade fruit syrups without the need for canning.

Preparation Tips

  • Strawberry Prep: For the best flavor, ensure the strawberries are fully ripe. You can crush them in a blender, but be careful not to over-blend, as this can make the syrup too thin.
  • Serve-Gel: If you can’t find Serve-Gel, regular pectin or a similar product can be used as a substitute. Follow the instructions on the package for best results.
  • Jar Preparation: Use small jars, like baby food jars, for easy storage and portioning. Make sure to leave about an inch of space at the top to allow for expansion when freezing.
  • Stirring: Stir continuously while boiling to prevent the syrup from sticking to the pot and burning.
