Chocolate Swirl Pound Cake
Yield: 12 - 14 servings

Chocolate Swirl Pound Cake


  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1¾ cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2¾ cups unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ cup chocolated-flavored syrup


  1. Cream butter and sugar in large mixer bowl until creamy and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder, ½ teaspoon baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk and vanilla, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
  5. Beat until just blended.
  6. Set aside 1¾ cups batter. Spoon remaining batter into a greased-and-floured 10-inch tube pan.
  7. Add ¼ teaspoon baking soda to chocolate syrup.
  8. Blend into reserved batter.
  9. Spoon batter in pan. Using a narrow spatula, gently swirl through batter in pan.
  10. Do not mix.
  11. Bake at 350° for 65 to 70 minutes or until cake tester inserted comes out clean.
  12. Cool in pan 15 minutes.
  13. Turn out onto wire rack and cool completely.
  14. Slice and serve.
