Yield: Makes 16.

Chocolate Chunk Brownies


  • 2 packages (4 oz. each) BAKER'S GERMAN'S Sweet Chocolate *
  • 1⅓ cups BAKER'S ANGEL FLAKE Coconut
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. CALUMET Baking Powder
  • ⅓ cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3 Tbls. sour cream
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. baking soda
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • *Or use 1 package (8 squares) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, cutting 2 of the squares into chunks.


  1. Cut ½ package of the chocolate into large chunks.
  2. Mix flour with baking powder, salt and baking soda; set aside.
  3. Melt butter in saucepan; add sugar.
  4. Blend in egg and vanilla.
  5. Gradually stir in flour mixture.
  6. Stir in chocolate chunks and 2/3 cup coconut.
  7. Spread in greased 9-inch square pan.
  8. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes.
  9. Cool in pan.
  10. Meanwhile, melt remaining chocolate in saucepan over very low heat, stirring constantly.
  11. Cool slightly; stir in sour cream.
  12. Spread over top of brownies.
  13. Sprinkle with remaining coconut.
  14. Chill until firm, about ten minutes.
  15. Cut into squares.
