Yield: 50 cookies

Chocolate Chip Cookies


  • ½ cup softened shortening
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup unsifted all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon water
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 cup (6 oz.) Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips


  1. Beat shortening, sugars, vanilla, water, and egg until light and fluffy.
  2. Mix flour with soda and salt; blend into shortening mixture.
  3. Stir in nuts and chips.
  4. Drop 2 inches apart from teaspoon onto greased baking sheets.
  5. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
