Cherry Chocolate Cake


  • ½ cup butter
  • 1½ cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1¾ cups cake flour
  • 1¼ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease and flour pan.
  2. Cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the eggs and almond extract and beat well.
  4. Add the cocoa powder and mix until well combined.
  5. By hand, stir the cake flour, baking soda, and salt together.
  6. Add flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix until just combined.
  7. Stir in the cherry pie filling.
  8. Pour the batter into the pan.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the middle comes out clean.
  10. Cool and frost.
