Instructions

  1. Measure out four pieces of Alcoa wrap (two 18-inches long and two 11-inches long). Fold lengthwise to make strips about 2-inches wide. Tape ends together and shape four circles (two about 5½-inches in diameter and two about 3-inches in diameter). Space one large and one small circle in each of two greased and floured 8-inch round layer cake pans.
  2. Mix Duncan Hines Deluxe White Cake Mix as directed on the label. Measure out two cups of abtter and stir in several drops of red food coloring. Fill opposite rings in each pan with alternate colors of batter. Carefully remove the foil.
  3. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes, until top springs back when touched lightly. Cool 15 minutes, remove from pans and cool completely.
  4. Frost cake with your favorite White frosting (or tint it pink). Cut wedges of cake will look like a pink and white checkerboard.
