Buttermilk White Cake Recipe

Buttermilk White Cake
Ingredients
White Cake Batter
- 1/2 cup Crisco
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups cake flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cubes unsweetened chocolate, melted (if you want to turn it in to a chocolate cake)
Brown Sugar Frosting
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2/3 cup milk or cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
White Cake Batter
- Cream the shortening and sugar
- Beat in the eggs one at a time
- Add vanilla
- Sift flour and salt
- Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk
- Beat well
- Dissolve the soda in vinegar and beat into the batter for 2 minutes
- Bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees
Brown Sugar Frosting
- Mix the sugars and milk in a saucepan
- Boil until this forms a soft ball in cold water
- Remove from flame and add butter
- Allow to set until almost cool, then beat
- Add vanilla and allow to rest until consistency to spread
