Buttermilk White Cake

Buttermilk White Cake

Cook Time: 40 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes


White Cake Batter

  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cubes unsweetened chocolate, melted (if you want to turn it in to a chocolate cake)

Brown Sugar Frosting

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2/3 cup milk or cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


White Cake Batter

  1. Cream the shortening and sugar
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time
  3. Add vanilla
  4. Sift flour and salt
  5. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk
  6. Beat well
  7. Dissolve the soda in vinegar and beat into the batter for 2 minutes
  8. Bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees

Brown Sugar Frosting

  1. Mix the sugars and milk in a saucepan
  2. Boil until this forms a soft ball in cold water
  3. Remove from flame and add butter
  4. Allow to set until almost cool, then beat
  5. Add vanilla and allow to rest until consistency to spread
