Batter Bread

Prep Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons lard or shortening
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • Butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in water
  2. Sift dry ingredients
  3. Mix 1/2 flour with mixer at medium speed with shortening or lard
  4. Blend remainder of flour with spoon
  5. Let rise 40 minutes
  6. Stir down and allow to rise again in pan for 40 minutes
  7. Bake for 45 - 50 minutes minimum at 375 degrees.
  8. Butter top
