Banana Upside Down Cake

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 or 3 medium bananas
  • 1 package Betty Crocker Chiquita* Banana Cake Mix

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°.
  2. Melt butter over low heat in square pan, 8 x 8 x 2 inches or 9 x 9 x 2 inches, or round layer pan, 9 x 1½ inches.
  3. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over butter.
  4. Peel bananas and cut into ½-inch slices.
  5. Arrange slices in rows over sugar mixture.
  6. Prepare cake mix as directed on package except - pour half of batter (about 2½ cups) evenly over bananas in pan.
  7. Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  8. Invert at once onto serving plate.
  9. Leave pan over cake a few minutes.
  10. Serve warm and, if desired, with whipped cream.
  11. Bake remaining batter in greased and floured 8- or 9-inch round layer pan as directed on package.
